Korea - May 2nd 2009 - Day 7 - Task cancelled due to weather.

We were expecting it today - we awoke this morning to low cloud, breezy wind and a definite promise of rain in the air. The take off is obscured in cloud and an early decision has been taken to cancel the day.

The officially published results will be up here shortly - the animation of Task 3 is now available and task 4 will follow soon.

Winning team yesterday were Team UP - who win themselves a free meal for their efforts - this is team UP...

Korea - May 1st 2009 - Day 6 - Task 4 - Afternoon Interim Update [16:40]

This task is proving to be a tough one. At the moment there are 64 pilots landing short of the goal and, as we write this report, we have just heard that there are 15 pilots in goal and more arriving all the time...

More news later

Korea - May 1st 2009 - Day 6 - Morning (10:30)

The sun is out this morning and the wind is staying fairly calm (although it is quite breezy in Mun Gyeong itself). It looks good so far and everyone is on the way to the take-off. There are two days left in this competition and we are hoping to make two more tasks.

As soon as the task is decided it will be posted here - in the meantime, we wanted to show you how we fill up the evenings during a World Cup event. A couple of nights ago Gin hosted a party for the whole competition - we had traditional dancing, drumming and even a dragon - and free beer as well (its tough here but someone has to do it...) - here is a selection of photos from the party.

Korea - 30th April 2009 - Day 5 - Task 3 - 48.9km Race to Goal won by Denis Cortella (France) [18:30 - Korean Time]

Its been an excellent day for the Paragliding World Cup - exactly 100 pilots made goal and the task was won in a time of 1 hour 20 minutes 42 seconds by Denis Cortella (France - Kortel Design -  Gin Boomerang 6).

First woman today was Xiangping Hou (China - Niviuk Peak) with a time of 1 hour 36 minutes 13 seconds.

Winning team for the task was the Gin Team

Korea - 30th April 2009 - Day 5 - Task 3 - 48.9km Race To Goal (12:00)

The task is set - it should be task 4 by now but, due to yesterday's cancelled task, it is only task 3.

Its a 48.9km Race to Goal where every second turnpoint is back over the launch. This gives it a star shape which is hard to follow on the map so here is the order...

Launch - D27. Start is a 3km cylinder around P13 then...

Turnpoint 1 - P13
Turnpoint 2 - D27
Turnpoint 3 - P16 (2km Radius)
Turnpoint 4 - D27
Turnpoint 5 - P36
Turnpoint 6 - D27
Turnpoint 7 - P26

And finally to Goal at L25.

The start is at 13:00 and the map is here....

Day5 - Task4

Korea - 30th April 2009 - Day 5 - Morning (10:00)

The winds have dropped off a lot this morning and the forecast is looking good for a task today. Everyone is on their way to launch (one or two look a bit sleepy after last night's party...)

The party went well, we had an amazing display of Korean dancing and drumming along with a feast of locally prepared, traditional Mun Gyeong food and free (yes FREE) beer !!!

Many thanks to Gin for organising a wonderful evening. The pictures will be here this afternoon.
