The task was running well, considering the conditions, but at around 16:!5 we received a call from the meet director informing us that the task had been cancelled.

At the time, it was raining around the final turnpoint and the decision was made to cancel the task on safety grounds.

Quite a number of pilots have made the goal field but, unfortunately, a stopped elapsed time task is not scored.

At this time, most of the field are back at base with a small number of pilots still waiting for busses (the weather is still quite pleasant and the roads have been really busy around the lake...)

Event 4 of the Paragliding World Cup 2009 calendar is under way. The task this afternoon is a 58.8km cats cradle and, due to the hazy conditions which are prevailing today, it has been declared an elapsed time task.

 [For anyone who doesn't immediately understand the term - an elapsed time race is one where each pilot can pick their own start time simply by crossing the start line when they think it is a good time to go - they then fly the course aiming to finish in the best elapsed time. The advantage to pilots is that they can wait until they feel the conditions are optimal before committing to the start. However, there is a tendency for lots of pilots to stay in the air before the start waiting for others to lead out so that they can assess the conditions on the course before starting.]

The fourth event in the 2009 Paragliding World Cup is under way. Registration was completed yesterday and 115 pilots are currently registered for the competition here in Talloires, France.
